Airhead by Meg Cabot (Airhead #1)

Title: Airhead
Author: Meg Cabot
Released Date: May 13, 2008

Publisher: Scholastic Inc.
Series: Book One of Airhead

Emerson Watts didn’t even want to go to the new SoHo Stark Megastore grand opening. But someone needed to look out for her sister, Frida, whose crush, British heartthrob Gabriel Luna, would be singing and signing autographs there—along with the newly appointed Face of Stark, teen supermodel sensation Nikki Howard.
How was Em to know that disaster would strike, changing her—and life as she’d known it—forever? One bizarre accident later, and Em Watts, always the tomboy, never the party princess, is no longer herself. Literally.

Marshmallow thoughts:~

Woohooo~ I love this book soo much. So the story starts with Emerson Watts and her sister, Frida who was bickering all morning trying to persuade her mom from bringing Em along. Em is like a tomboy with no sense of fashion at all and Frida is sure that her sister is going to ruin the day for her. Frida was excited because her gorgeous idol, Gabriel Luna is having an autograph session at SoHo.  So of they go to the autographs session and what happen next would change the life of Em forever. When the most famous super model was walking down the way, there;s bound to be some trouble. So the trouble starts when Frida when to get Nikki's autograph instead and didn't realise she was about to get hit by  a flat tv screen hung on the wall. One of the protesters barge in and shoot the cable of the screen and the tv screen is hanging loosely threatening to fall on top of Frida and Nikki.. Em saw it all.  Em push her sister out of the way in just the time to save Frida but she got hit by the screen instead. So did Nikki. So all sort of complications and mind blogging activity happens while the doctors try to bring back Nikki and Em back to live.

So the doctors ain't able to bring Nikki back to live but they do can save Em by using Nikki's body. I'm not really entertain by the prospect of brain transfer thing and I'm not sure if there's more to it later on in the next book. I do feel like the subject was just dropped out like that with no real explanation. None that I'm satisfied with anyway.  I'm quite frustrated with Emerson because she seems to handled the matter quite... well... Lol. I mean if my soul was being transferred to another body I'm sure I'm gonna go all freaky.

The storyline is quite entertaining and we get to see the point of view from  one of the Walking Dead herself. The Walking Dead are those stuck up,snotty, beautiful and popular girls in TAHS, the school that Em went to, and Nikki too later on. Nikki (which is Em now) is not stuck up and snotty but she is beautiful and pretty. More like gorgeous.  Well she is a supermodel anyway. So while three other guys is chasing after Nikki (now Em, I know confusing eh?) Em has only her eyes for her bestfriend, always been. Christopher and Em has been friends since forever and Christopher never have any feelings for Em, as Em thought anyway. So things really get interesting and I really want to know how Em is going to be friend with Christopher again.

Wooh~ I'm actually so excited over this book so pardon for the long review. I am actually thinking if going on but I don't think I need to tell you more for you to know it's amazing. We have always heard of soul-transfer thingy but it's rare that you hear about brain transplant. Though this book doesn't really touch on that subject deeply, it sure does interesting to know how Em cope with all of it. The ending is pretty intriguing and I want to know more about what will happen to Christopher and Em!

Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver

Title: Before I Fall
Author: Lauren Oliver
Released Date: October 25, 2011
Publisher: Harper Collins

What if you only had one day to live? What would you do? Who would you kiss? And how far would you go to save your own life?
Samantha Kingston has it all: looks, popularity, the perfect boyfriend. Friday, February 12, should be just another day in her charmed life. Instead, it turns out to be her last.
The catch: Samantha still wakes up the next morning. Living the last day of her life seven times during one miraculous week, she will untangle the mystery surrounding her death—and discover the true value of everything she is in danger of losing.

Marshmallow thoughts:~

Before I Fall is a great story conveyed from the eye of a popular girl named, Sam Kingston. Just like how popular girls are like, Sam is mean, shallow and selfish. Her life is considered perfect. But her whole life vanish through her eyes when she died in a car crash. She was suddenly flung into the realization of the true meaning of life and the simple things that is more important than wearing the right clothes or being in the spotlight.

Before I read this book, I am a little hesitant as I was expecting a repetitive storyline or something. But it turns out that it is not same at all. For everyday of the seven days, Sam tried to live her days and start thinking up maturely. I love how Sam stick up for herself and try to do the right thing even though her friends is giving her a headache time.
I love how Sam transform through her days. She start to realize her mistakes and she learns to correct it. For seven days, she cherish more and more of her moments and try to correct her mistakes.

The end of the story is quite sad and after reading it I started to wonder if she didn't do that would she still be living her days? I am feeling quite sad for Kent too because he really didn't have a warning about what was to happen. I feel like crying for him. For Sam too. In the end, Sam grows up to be mature and though she thinks she is doing the right thing, I do feel a little regret for her for losing her life like that.

I cried and laugh through Sam's journey of self-discovery and I think everyone ought to read this book and enjoy the ride too. Just remember to bring a box of Kleenex near the end.

Where to buy Soul Sisters: Amazon Smashwords

I am so excited to interview the author of Soul Sisters, Janiera Eldridge. I hope you enjoy the interview as much as I do. Don't forget to enter the giveaway! Now without further ado, let's proceed to the interview!

First of all, I would like to welcome you to Books  With Marshmallows. Love to have you here!

Thank you so much for having me on your blog! I love your blog name by the way.
1

1)Can you tell us a little something about yourself? When did you start writing?
I recently left college because of an illness and decided to become a full time writer. Although, that decision was a painful one, I’m slowly starting to see it was Gods will ...and a fantastic one I might add! When I’m not writing, reading or book blogging I’m doing my entertainment writer duties for Directorslive.com

2) What or who inspires you to write this book?
I love the vampire genre so much. Stephanie Meyers is definitely an inspiration to me and despite criticisms people love the Twilight Series. I love the Twilight series. I really was inspired by her to write a vampire genre that went against the normal grain a little bit.
2
3)Soul Sisters is your first fictional book. Why vampires?
-Again I’m a huge vampire fan. The beauty in the vampire genre is it is constantly changing and you can make them whatever you want them to.  You can make disgusting zombie creatures or chic fashionable aristocrats (which I prefer personally).

4) Do you think you will go along fine with the human or vampire sister?
Well it’s funny because Dana is the type of friend I would love to have. She enjoys books; she is shy but fun once you get to know her. She is definitely the kind of girl I would like to hang out with. Ani is kind of my alter-ego, she is really rough around the edges, to the point and doesn’t hold her tongue. Don’t know if I would want to hang out with her LOL but, I can relate to her a lot.

5) If aliens landed in front of you and in exchange for anything you desire, offered you any position on their planet, what would you want?
Is Johnny Deep available? Just Kidding, I would love complete financial security for my family and I. It’s something I like so many others have struggled with in the past and it would really mean a lot for me to have it permanently.

6) When you first wrote this book, did you have a clear idea of how it was going to go or did you just string the ideas together as you went?
I had the main plot line in my head however; I’ve always been a writer to just string along ideas. I love to watch my plot line and characters flourish randomly in front of me.

7) What project are you working on now?
I’m currently working on the sequel to Soul Sisters; I’m half-way through it so I hope to have it out by the end of the year. Then I will take a break from the Soul Sisters trilogy and write my first horror novel. I’m in love with the horror genre so I’ve got to try it out!

Thanks so much for having me and God Bless!

Title: I'd Tell You I Love You But Then I'd Have To Kill You (Gallagher Girls #1)
Author: Ally Carter
Released Date: April 25, 2006
Publisher: Hyperion
Series: Book One of The Gallagher Girls

Cammie Morgan is a student at the Gallagher Academy for Exceptional Young Women, a fairly typical all-girls school-that is, if every school taught advanced martial arts in PE and the latest in chemical warfare in science, and students received extra credit for breaking CIA codes in computer class. The Gallagher Academy might claim to be a school for geniuses but it's really a school for spies. Even though Cammie is fluent in fourteen languages and capable of killing a man in seven different ways, she has no idea what to do when she meets an ordinary boy who thinks she's an ordinary girl. Sure, she can tap his phone, hack into his computer, or track him through town with the skill of a real "pavement artist"-but can she maneuver a relationship with someone who can never know the truth about her?
Cammie Morgan may be an elite spy-in-training, but in her sophomore year, she's on her most dangerous mission-falling in love.

Marshmallow thoughts:~

Yay! I've always like to read a book like this. I love the idea of the story. What everyone thought about the Gallagher Academy as being a school for the posh and spoil brat girls from the rich is quite wrong. Gallagher Academy is more than that. It is a spy school. Yep, a school where girls go to learn about spy stuffs and what they learn is more advanced. The kids in the school have to learn numerous of different languages and master different types of martial arts and other so interesting and exciting stuffs. I wish I can go there.

Cammie is the second generation spy in her family and her mother is a spy who is now the headmistress of the Gallagher Academy. Cammie's dad is presumed dead and why Cammie think that is because she know there must be something more to that.

One day, while on a field mission Cammie stumbled onto a subject named Josh. Cammie seems to be at lost of words and 14 other languages  because she can't think of anything to say when she saw the cute and adorable Josh. That is not really spy-like isn't it? Cammie's two best friends Bex and Liz decided to help her with her dilemma and help he to investigate the subject. Cammie find herself more drawn to Josh then ever before but she can't really keep up with the lies so things started to get messed up. I am so sorry to read what happen to Cammie and Josh later on.

This book is indeed funny and I enjoy reading it all the way though there's some scenes that Cammie shouldn't have done. Some of the scenes did kept me thinking over and over again. Isn't she a spy? She is suppose to be able to handle these things. Yeah, sometimes I get frustrated watching Cammie. Nonetheless, I love this book for the humour and cool gadgets and I am most jealous of the teachers. Why can't our teachers be as cool as theirs?

The Serpent's Shadow by Rick Riordan (The Kane Chronicles #3)

Title: Serpent's Shadow (The Kane Chronicles #3)
Author: Rick Riordan
Released Date: May 1st, 2012
Publisher: Hyperion Books
Series: The Third and last book of The Kane Chronicles

He's b-a-a-ack! Despite their best efforts, Carter and Sade Kane can't seem to keep Apophis, the chaos snake, down. Now Apophis is threatening to plunge the world into eternal darkness, and the Kanes are faced with the impossible task of having to destroy him once and for all. Unfortunately, the magicians of the House of Life are on the brink of civil war, the gods are divided, and the young initiates of Brooklyn House stand almost alone against the forces of chaos. The Kanes' only hope is an ancient spell that might turn the serpent's own shadow into a weapon, but the magic has been lost for a millennia. To find the answer they need, the Kanes must rely on the murderous ghost of a powerful magician who might be able to lead them to the serpent's shadow . . . or might lead them to their deaths in the depths of the underworld.

Marshmallow thoughts:~

Hahah. I think I might like this series after all. In this third book the plot is more interesting and you don't have to worry about monsters jumping onto you for every 5 seconds. I enjoy everything throughout the story. But that doens't mean I don't have my complains! I am really not satisfied with the Carter and Sadie thing. I mean both of them are the main characters so why does Sadie always have to be in the spotlight? Carter only manage to do some stupid things and his jobs is only to hold things together so that the story holds and Sadie can do what she wants. Seriously I think Carter is not having enough storyline  and it seems like the character is done hurriedly and just there to complete the story. But aside all that, I enjoy the story and oh my, I can't stop laughing reading it. My one particular favourite funny moment would be between Anubis and Set when Anubis saved Sadie.  “That’s my boy!” Set shouted. “Shut up, Father,” Anubis said. When you read the whole scene I am sure you will cracked up like I did.

Oh yeah, there's one other thing I am not satisfied about. It's about Sadie/Walt/Anubis relationship. God of Egypt! I think the solution to the relationship is tremendously horrible! How can that happen! That is so not fair! How can Sadie think of juggling two guys in the same time and you are not even sure which is which at the moment. I know many girls out there must have melt in every mention of Anubis but seriously how can you date a 5000 year old god who have a dog headed head? Imagine dating your great-great-great-great times 100-grandfather who have just done a plastic surgery. Isn't that eeeww?? Lol I might think too far but I can't help it.

There's a slight mention of 'other gods' in this book and when I read it I was oh-so happy! Maybe, maybe, hopefully, one day, the Rome, Egypt and Greek can work together to fight and save the world!! How f***in' awesome would that be?! If that really happens, I think I might scream my ice-cream off. Imagine Jason, Percy, Carter and Sadie, Zia, Annabeth and Piper. My, my, I think I might faint.

Fear by Michael Grant (Gone #5)

Title: Fear (Gone #5)
Author: Michael Grant
Released Date: April 12 ,2012
Publisher: Katherine Tegen Books
Series: Book Five of the Gone Series

It's been one year since all the adults disappeared. Gone. Despite the hunger and the lies, even despite the plague, the kids of Perdido Beach are determined to survive. Creeping into the teneous new world they've built, though, is perhaps the worst incarantion yet of the enemy known as the Darkness: fear.
Within the FAYZ, life breaks down while the Darkness takes over, literally—turning the dome-world of the FAYZ entirely black. In darkness, the worst fears of all emerge, and the cruelest of intentions are carried out. But even in their darkest moments, the inhabitants of the FAYZ maintain a will to survive and a desire to take care of the others in their ravaged band that endures, no matter what the cost.

Marshmallow thoughts:~

Fear is probably my most favourite book in the series because the plot change up a little and we get to know about what is happening at the outside world too. I love it that Sam and Caine didn't fight much in this book and Caine finally come to his senses, not that I am sure if he is truly not evil anymore but he did help Sam and the others to fight gaiaphage.

In Fear, the people are plunged into the darkness after the dome is slowly and painstakingly turn dark with every passing minutes. With no light, they have to face with the probability of hunger and chaos. But first thing first, they would have to defeat Drake. Drake is merciless and he happily follow the orders of the gaiaphage to kill people. He is even more delighted when the gaiaphage orders him to catch Diana but I don't think he is that delighted though because he also get a strong order to NOT kill Diana. Hah.
The kids in the FAYZ really have no break to the agony and terror at all. The author have no end in putting the characters into mind and body challenges every time.

What delights me most about this book is that we get to know something about the outside world!! Yay!  We finally get to know more about Sam and Caine's mom and what the people out there is actually doing.

My most favourite character in Fear is... Astrid! I never really like her before but in this book she transform to another person who is more tough and self dependent. That's what I like. Another thing that happen that was totally unexpected happened to Diana. Oh my, how could this happen? I started to like Diana since Plague and I am so sad to see what happen to her in this book later. I really hope she can save herself and the baby later. Please Michael Grant, you can't be that cruel.

My most favourite moment in this book is when the darkness suddenly faded and the gaiaphage did something so unexpected and I am sure my jaw must have hit the ground hard when I read what happen. If you already read the book then you must know what I'm talking about. I also love it that Sam finally doesn't care what people think of him anymore and instead focus on to what is more important.

Fear is my most favourite book of the series and I think the last book might be my second favourite. I am so curious how the author is going to end all this madness but I sure do know it's going to be epic. Can't wait for the Light to come!

Article 5 by Kristen Simmons

Title: Article 5
Author: Kristen Simmons
Released Date: January 31, 2012
Publisher: Tor Teen
Series: Book One of Article 5

The Bill of Rights has been revoked, and replaced with the Moral Statutes.
There are no more police—instead, there are soldiers. There are no more fines for bad behavior—instead, there are arrests, trials, and maybe worse. People who get arrested usually don't come back.
Seventeen-year-old Ember Miller is old enough to remember that things weren't always this way. Living with her rebellious single mother, it's hard for her to forget that people weren't always arrested for reading the wrong books or staying out after dark. It's hard to forget that life in the United States used to be different. Ember has perfected the art of keeping a low profile. She knows how to get the things she needs, like food stamps and hand-me-down clothes, and how to pass the random home inspections by the military. Her life is as close to peaceful as circumstances allow.
That is, until her mother is arrested for noncompliance with Article 5 of the Moral Statutes. And one of the arresting officers is none other than Chase Jennings—the only boy Ember has ever loved.

Marshmallow thoughts:~

I've been so long to read this book and I am so excited when I finally have time to read it. I thought the book might be a little like the Hunger Games. I was intrigued by the reviews and the first few pages is interesting enough for me to read on. But as I continue on, I notice a lot of missing vital information and even after I finish reading the book I still couldn't get into the story. The author didn't tell anything about the war and why it happens. We are straight away introduced to a post war torn country where everyone is living in fear and peoples are not allowed to read books. Imagine that. I love the cover and the title itself gives me a totally different expectations. For one, I thought the heroine might be some hard kick-ass chick and are not too depending on guys to live. Guess what? It was all different in Article 5. The heroine, Ember is whiny, naive and too depending on guy. I hate when she is so whiny all the time and look how stupid she can get sometimes. She was about to get killed by a man and when Chase was about to beat that guy ass of  Ember goes all terrified and screaming for him to stop beating that guy or he will be dead. Ember's naivete and stupidity really stress me out.

From the beginning of this book Ember was supposed to fight or save her mother and whatsoever but in the end the book tells us more about Ember's confusing love life and whether she should leave Chase or follow him which create much more trouble. I seriously can't think how Ember is going to save the country with this kind of character.

This book seriously can't match up with the Hunger Games and I am so dissaponted since that was what I was expecting. Nonethless, I am sure this book can be much more interesting if the plot is more engaging and  I do want to read the next book to see if the story is improving in any ways.

Plague by Michael Grant

Title: Plague (Gone #4)
Author: Michael Grant
Released Date: April 5, 2011
Publisher: Katherin Tegen Books
Series: Book Four of Gone series

It's been eight months since all the adults disappeared. GONE.
They've survived hunger. They've survived lies. But the stakes keep rising, and the dystopian horror keeps building. Yet despite the simmering unrest left behind by so many battles, power struggles, and angry divides, there is a momentary calm in Perdido Beach.
But enemies in the FAYZ don't just fade away, and in the quiet, deadly things are stirring, mutating, and finding their way free. The Darkness has found its way into the mind of its Nemesis at last and is controlling it through a haze of delirium and confusion. A highly contagious, fatal illness spreads at an alarming rate. Sinister, predatory insects terrorize Perdido Beach. And Sam, Astrid, Diana, and Caine are plagued by a growing doubt that they'll escape - or even survive - life in the FAYZ.

Marshmallow thoughts:~

There's never a moment of peace for the kids in the FAYZ. The major problem now is the plague. The kids find out that a flying snake that they called greenies are squirting (yucks) green stuff and the person who are hit by it will face an agonizing death. The green stuff will eat its way from inside you and burst its way out from your stomach. The miseries of all is that even Sam's blazing light can't kill it. Next, the kids are also catching flu. A flu that makes you cough so hard it would break your neck and cough your organs out.

Truthfully I am quite bored of reading this series as the plot us quite the same and there's just too much blood. In Plague the plot change a little but there's more blood everywhere than ever before. I was expecting Sam to be searching for cures or something to handle the plague but instead there's other problem needed to be taken care of other than the plague. The water source in Perdido Beach is running out and so Albert sent Sam and other crew to search for water at Lake Tramanto. While he was there, Perdido Beach was facing other threats. Without Sam, Dekka and Jack they couldn't do much to defend themselves. So they ask for help from someone and guess who it is? Caine! I am quite dissapointed because even Diana can't control him. So of he goes to Perdido Beach and claim himself as the King. Lol much.

The story moves at a great speed and there's so much things happening everywhere there's no room for you to grieve. I can't wait to read the next book, Fear.

Try explaining that to the emergency room doctor Oh wait - that would be Patrick's mom. She's a dream seeker too, as are Patrick's sister and brother. If Patrick follows the family's dream-seeking rules he can have cool nighttime adventures. But if he forgets...

Marshmallow thoughts:~

After reading this book, I am sure that kids would really enjoy reading this book. Fright Flight tells the story of a family who are a dream seekers. Except for the dad. Patrick dad is a scientist that is trying to figure out about the dream seeker genes and hoping he would be able to reverse it. Dream seekers experience dreams more vividly and real and they will suffer the after effects of the dreams in real life like how Patrick dream of eating lots of ice cream and woke up with a stomach ache. Patrick's mom who is also a dream seeker sets out rules for her family so they can control their way in the dreams. Patrick got super excited after watching a movie with his friends. Disobeying all rules, Patrick found himself drifting of to sleep dreaming and living his biggest adventures yet.

The story is fast pace and full of exciting adventures. I absolutely love the idea of this Dream Seekers. I am looking forward to know more about Patrick and his adventures in the next book.

About Me

My Photo

It all happen, one day, when the sky is blue and the birds is perched high up the tree chirping their sweet shrill melody.
I was walking down the street humming a random song when I saw it....
The perfect, beautiful cover of a painting..

The bell hung on the doorknob give a tingling sound as I open the door. I walked toward the painting, mesmerized by the beauty of it. I stare at the beautiful portrait of a girl sitting solemnly on a chair staring out at the emptiness. She's in a room. A room filled with books. A stack of books piled dangerously high  near the shelf. The painting is so vivid and looked so real that I reached out my hand to touch the painting, ignoring the sign post shouting to not touch the painting.

As I reach out my hand to the painting, I could see the girl smiling. Or was it my imagination?
Suddenly, I feel like I'm being pushed and I could see the colour of the painting start to swirl and swirl and...

I can feel myself groan and my eyes flutter open. I try to sit while holding up my dizzy head in my hand.
I look around and was startled when I heard the voice behind me.
"You can't go anywhere. You have to stay here with me.Don't worry. I have a chair somewhere here." said the girl who was sitting on a chair solemnly....

Da da da da~ I'm thinking about writing about myself but I get carried on and didn't realise I haven't even talk about myself!
