Nikolas and Company by Kevin McGill

Title: Nikolas and Company- The Merman and The Moon Forgotten (Episode One)
Author: Kevin McGill

Nick lives in a time when one can extend their life indefinitely through cerebral downloads, zip from country to country in hovercars, and have every whim taken care of by the ever faithful nannydrones.
Nick hates it.
Aside from the refugee camps, overpopulation, and unchecked consumerism filling every city across the globe, Nick just doesn’t belong. That is when he hears the voice of a woman:
“The Rones lie about their true intent. They enter the city of Huron at the peril of us all.”

Marshmallow thoughts:~

The story takes place on the futuristic Earth. I found the Earth to be quite boring and slow. The readers would definitely understand and sympathize with Nikolas and his desire to leave the Earth. Me too, would not want to live there. The world is filled with all kinds of creatures. My favourite is the Merman! The Merman in this story is different and not like any other mermaid you have read.
I am captivated by the world of Mon. Too bad though I haven't got to experience it. Hope I will know more about it in the next book.

The Merman and the Moon Forgotten is at first start out slow but things start to get interesting when they are about to set out for the adventure. The story is different from any other books that I've read. In a good way of course. It's quite refreshing to read this book. The story ends in one hell of a cliffhanger and I can't wait to read the sequel.

Excerpt:

“Greeow!” the mist cried. Lir reeled in a black mass with hundreds of red eyes and an acrid smell. The harpoon tore through its stomach, and the creature burst into filthy smoke as it tumbled over.
“What are they, sir?” Yeri said. The monster had been so close Lir could have hugged it, yet the fog hid its shape.
Lir looked ready to speak, but his mouth stayed shut.
Red eyes appeared before them. Lir cocked the whip. Suddenly another creature grabbed the cord from behind and Lir was dragged to the back of the coach. At the last moment he anchored himself into an exposed ribbing. “Gaah!” He cried. His tail was being shredded by the stony ground underneath.
With the whip still in his hand, the merman’s muscles exploded from neck to shoulder as he flung the monster ahead of the stagecoach. Monstrous screams were cut short by the solid end of a spruce tree.
Lir heaved himself to the seat and pointed to an outcropping. “Just beyond Constance Cove, that’s our destination.”
“Lesterton’s Point sir? But—”
“Trust me, Yeri.”
The horses swung right and seaward.
“Sir. There is nothing here but ocean below.”
“Ride hard, sir.”
“But the cliff?”
“Do not stop!”
The stagecoach leapt into the gut of mist, leaving the ground behind. The horse reached out with its forelegs for hope.
“Sweet Huron!” Yeri yelled.

About Me

My Photo

It all happen, one day, when the sky is blue and the birds is perched high up the tree chirping their sweet shrill melody.
I was walking down the street humming a random song when I saw it....
The perfect, beautiful cover of a painting..

The bell hung on the doorknob give a tingling sound as I open the door. I walked toward the painting, mesmerized by the beauty of it. I stare at the beautiful portrait of a girl sitting solemnly on a chair staring out at the emptiness. She's in a room. A room filled with books. A stack of books piled dangerously high  near the shelf. The painting is so vivid and looked so real that I reached out my hand to touch the painting, ignoring the sign post shouting to not touch the painting.

As I reach out my hand to the painting, I could see the girl smiling. Or was it my imagination?
Suddenly, I feel like I'm being pushed and I could see the colour of the painting start to swirl and swirl and...

I can feel myself groan and my eyes flutter open. I try to sit while holding up my dizzy head in my hand.
I look around and was startled when I heard the voice behind me.
"You can't go anywhere. You have to stay here with me.Don't worry. I have a chair somewhere here." said the girl who was sitting on a chair solemnly....

Da da da da~ I'm thinking about writing about myself but I get carried on and didn't realise I haven't even talk about myself!
